COUNTY LEAGUE OVER 60’S

BWFC  1 v 0  Bedworth.

Birmingham faced a crunch game vs Bedworth in the County League with a depleted squad due to holidays, injuries and last-minute withdrawals.

The Team started the game with one sub and Paul Feeney making his debut in goal with all the Club’s custodians away on summer breaks. We made a hesitant start with the referee blowing frequently for running offences for both sides and with barely 10 minutes gone Roy was on 2 offences and facing a spell in the sin bin. This was overshadowed as Roger pulled a calf muscle and had to be replaced by our only regular sub Steve W who had not played for a month due to injury. The team was rejigged and although Bedworth were combining well they were unable to get a clear shot at our debutant goalkeeper with Martin and Peter marshalling the defence in a calm manner.

The team began to settle into the game and to dominate particularly in the second half creating several chances that went close or were well saved by the Bedworth keeper. The team also coped well with Roy and Dave both being given periods in the sin bin and having to play with only six players Persistence paid off in the final few minutes when Clive coolly slotted home a low shot to win the game.

Thanks to everyone who contributed to an important win and keep us at the head of the table with two vital games against the two Coleshill sides to play. Thanks also to Noel who was on standby if we suffered any further injuries.
