Birmingham over 50’s continued their improvement to confirm their status as a top 6 team in the country with a very credible runners up spot to the impressive double national championships Leggy Mambos from Barnsley.

At times their football was sublime, as the first half demolition of last years Runners up in the Nationals, Burton Albion. 5-0 up at half time their secured their semi final spot against Middlesborough, where a brace from Dave Norton secured a hard fought victory.

The final against Leggy Mambos, was just one game too far for the tiring Birmingham players, injury niggles and the excellent Mambos meant two first half goals saw off Birminghams challenge.

Goals for Birmingham were 8 from David Wright 6 from Dave Norton and 2 from Darren Bradley, Rob Corp kept excellently with some fine saves, Captain David Castle said ” I was really proud of the lads today all 8 of the squad played their part, we have a number of niggling injuries at present but the introduction of Darren Bradley and Dave Norton is encouraging us to take this to another level, Our main focus this year is the Nationals which we continue in September. We just need to stay fit and focused and you never know, On our day I am confident we can beat anyone”
