BWFC OVER 60'S V WESTON-SUPER-MARE - 4-0 WIN

Seagulls Grounded!

Birmingham Over 60s played Weston-Super-Mare on the last leg of their Midlands tour and posted an emphatic victory to banish memories of the cup loss at Matlock.

The game was 7 a side at Solihull was notable for the debut of “youngster” Geoff H in goal at the age of 72 who kept a clean sheet in a 4-0 win. Birmingham started strongly with excellent communication and support between the players and the Weston goal being peppered by shots from all angles. Paul F and Keith L kept the Weston attack quiet and kept a steady supply of ball to the midfield trio of Roy, Steve E and Paul Feeney. Dave W as ever worked hard up front and was a constant danger to the Weston defence. The constant pressure told and Birmingham rattled up four goals from Paul Feeney, Steve E, Dave W and Keith L to put themselves in a comfortable position by half-time. Weston took time to make some changes and worked hard in the second half to prevent Birmingham scoring again. Don R came on at the break for Birmingham and fitted in well in defence helping Geoff keep a clean sheet. Steve W replaced Roy in midfield as he was incurring the wrath of the referee. Birmingham continued in the same comfortable vein dominating the game but unable to add to the score. An excellent performance with the team beginning to gel and not looking like strangers meeting for the first time.

Thanks to the referee for clear and consistent officiating and to Weston who may have been feeling the effects of their tour of the delights of the West Midlands but participated in a sporting game played in the right spirit.
